What Nature provides for an Artist

We took a drive to Bathurst today with my camera in tow of course. Being new to the New Brunswick area, I am searching for subject matter.

Just before Bathurst I saw it, a wonderful bog alive with colour.  I believe this is Labrador tea blooming. If am wrong, please tell me the correct name.

Gorgeous gorgeous colour as far as I could see back into the bush.  The contrast of the fuschia and the new green on the trees.

An artists eye 'catches' the special  view and then we try to translate back what our experience was. That is what an artist is, someone who is trying to share their experiences with the rest of the world as they have seen it.

I have lots of photos and will be painting from this experience.

Thank you spring, thank you Mother Nature !!

Looking for the Big One

Another watercolour completed, I was inspired by all the fishermen who are up at such an early hour fishing the Miramichi River, 'Looking for the Big One'

"Smoke on the Water" Canadian Geographic

Canadian Geographic special edition Wild Weather goes on the newstand next week.  On page 90 is my contribution with a photo of the Island at Rossport in -25 weather. I was returning to Marathon. It was so danged cold that Gracie wouldn't get out of the car with me.  I ran, took the photo and got back in the car because I could feel the icelets in my nose hairs from breathing.  I am so very proud to have this photo in the special edition with all those wonderful photographers.
